The Yorkshire Dales Falconry Centre
Pre-visit Information for Guided Tours
Introduction:
The Yorkshire Dales Falconry and Conservation Centre is the first privately owned Falconry Centre in the North of England. Since opening in 1991, it has provided a look into birds of prey and owls through educational and breeding programs. There are approximately 40 birds in the enclosures to look at and up to three daily flying demonstrations each with different birds.
The centre is self financing, with funding from the visitors, special events, along with help from the experience day courses and bird adoption schemes.
How to find the centre:
The centre itself is situated 3 miles north of the market town of Settle (A65 bypass) Please follow the brown tourist signs.
For SatNav please use: LA2 8AS
Pre-visit information:
Free guided tours of some of the birds are a part of your booking and are suitable for all. Children under the age of 16 years must be accompanied by a responsible adult.
Visitors need to be aware that some of the footpaths can be uneven and if raining, could be wet; it is recommended that they arrive wearing flat soled, strong footwear, trainers, wellies or walking boots are examples of appropriate footwear, depending on the weather and also the time of year. Check the weather forecast for clothing as much of the centre is outside ( If the weather was to suddenly change we have the facilities of an indoor lecture room which we can use) this can also be used as a classroom facility if needed.
On arrival:
There is ample free car and coach parking provided. Please watch the group whilst crossing the parking area. The entrance is located in the far right hand corner up the pathway under the canopy in the courtyard.
Book in at the entrance and your guide will be with you shortly to take you around some of the birds. If you have any queries or require any help please ask at the entrance of speak to the guide.
WC facilities are located at the rear end of the reception area
(PLEASE NOTE THESE ARE THE ONLY WC FACILITIES ON SITE)
You are welcome to bring picnics, these can be left on the coach or in cars to be collected later, or bags can be left with staff in the reception/shop to save carrying heavy or bulky items during the visit.
During the tour:
Children must be supervised by an adult for the duration of the visit. Visitors are asked not to run, climb onto or over barriers, throw stones, or scream and shout as it spoils the visit for others and upsets the birds. Under no circumstances are any of the birds to be offered food, as the wrong type can kill them. Anyone found throwing things at the birds will be asked to leave immediately.
After the tour:
There are lots of aviary’s to look around and the education room located above the tearoom is also available to use, along with the various artifact displays in there. You can also visit the tearoom or gift shop. The tearoom stocks a wide selection of snacks and refreshments and cold drinks, you can get ice creams from the shop next to the reception desk.
We are sure your group will enjoy their visit. If you require any further information or wish to discuss any aspect of your visit please contact us:
